Senior officers’ staff network membership

Case reference FOI2026/02045

Received 30 September 2026

Published 28 October 2026

Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide: The total number of officers serving in your force at the rank of Superintendent (or equivalent) or above who belong to at least one staff network recognised or supported by your force. Please count each officer only once. The names of those networks and, for each network, the number of officers at these ranks who belong to it. Please include force-specific networks and local branches of national networks. For the network-by-network figures, an officer belonging to multiple networks should be counted in each relevant network. Please provide the most recent figures held and specify the date to which they relate. I am requesting aggregate numbers only, rather than the names or other identifying details of individual officers. Yours faithfully, Karl Williams

Response

The City of London Police does not hold the information requested.

Membership of force networks is voluntary and there is no centralised record of network membership. Network membership is not routinely recorded against an individual's rank, role or employment details. As a result, the City of London Police does not hold recorded information that would allow it to identify:

Which officers at the rank of Superintendent or above are members of one or more force networks.

The total number of officers at these ranks who belong to at least one network.

The number of officers at these ranks who belong to any individual network.

Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides a right of access to information held by a public authority. The Act does not require public authorities to create information in order to respond to a request. As the requested information is not held by the City of London Police, we are unable to provide the figures requested.

Section 16 - Duty to Provide Advice and Assistance

To assist you, the City of London Police does maintain information about the existence of force networks and makes details of these available to staff via its internal force networks page. Force-Networks explains that the force has a number of support networks available to staff across the organisation.

While membership information is not held, the current force networks are:

Armed Forces Network

Association of Muslim Police

Black Police Association

Christian Police Association

Disability Enabling Network

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Network

Health and Wellbeing Network

LGBTQ+ Network

Menopause Action Group

Network of Women

Parenting Support Group

Polish Support Group

Please note that City of London Police does not maintain central membership records for these networks and therefore cannot provide membership figures.
