REQUEST 1: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What would you like to know?: Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I request the following information relating to arrests made by City of London Police. For each calendar year from 2015 to 2019, please provide the number of arrests and, where available, the percentage that each category represents of all arrests in that year, broken down by: * ethnic group * sex * age group * reason/offence category for arrest. Please include any categories recorded as unknown, not stated, other, or missing, where applicable. Where the data can be broken down by more than one of the above categories simultaneously (for example, sex and age group together), please provide it on that combined basis. If it is only possible to provide single-category breakdowns, please provide those instead. Please provide the information in an electronic format (such as Excel or CSV), together with any accompanying definitions, metadata, data dictionaries or explanatory notes necessary to interpret the data. If calendar-year data are unavailable, financial-year data covering the same period would be acceptable.

Response

The attachment provides the number of arrests and the percentage each category represents of all arrests in the relevant year, 01/01/2018 – 31/12/2019. Due to a change of recording system, data held prior to 2018 in not available.

• Reason/offence for arrest

Where recorded, categories such as "Not stated", "Unknown", "Other", and similar classifications have been retained within the data.

A combined breakdown by sex and age group has also been provided where possible.

Please note:

• Figures relate to arrest records and not unique individuals. A person may therefore appear more than once where they were arrested on multiple occasions.

• Percentages have been calculated against the total number of arrests in the relevant calendar year.

• The offence recorded is the offence associated with the arrest record at the time the arrest was made.

Total arrests recorded in the dataset were:

• 2018: 1,815 arrests

• 2019: 2,636 arrests
